… Yesterday, TinkTrace (friend of T.C. from before it was T.C.) sent a link. I was horrified. A barely-food that’s $.06 cheaper to make and sold for $1 more makes my neurons misfire.
Then I saw the ad in the right column (need javascript turned off to see it). My horror evaporated (replaced by dismay). Context aside, this ad is amazing. It’s two frames of an animated GIF so terribly Photoshop’d as to be comedic gold (click for full-size):
Has anyone actually bought this shit? I mean, do they think this guy was ever obese? Has anyone seen image retouching? (Ignoring the person who retouched it, who obviously hasn’t.) Thanks the interweb gods it’s hidden. ::shudder::
… Wednesday, I met with a consultant about our marketing department. There’s been almost complete turnover (I’ve been here longer than all but one person) since I signed on and restructuring has been sort of interesting.
She explained some of our inadequacies as far as interweb’s concerned and was stunned when I (title: Interactive Designer) admitted to having almost no part in the strategy. We laughed… and laughed… and laughed… (more misfired neurons.)

… I hate being sick. I’m not my usual, life of the party, constantly laughing, strikingly handsome, optimistic self when under the weather. I’m lazy, annoyed and waiting impatiently to stab the next microorganism I meet in the face.
… In my time at home, I’m reading because I’m totally intellectual. That includes blog posts and books I’ve been lax on keeping up with. To balance that out I’m watching shitty movies like TMNT. I’m going to have to read more.
… I’m reading a script from a buddy of mine. It’s sort of entertaining because most of the names/events are directly from my past. I don’t know if it has mass appeal (probably not) but it’s a decent first draft (he doesn’t read this anyway).
It got me wondering. How does Jessica Alba know from reading a formatted screenplay that a film will suck ass but for her… well… ass? I mean, there’s not a lot to a screenplay and it’s hard to visualize how everything will play out. Yet she’s spot on almost always. Amazing really.

… Big Brother is following me. (Not the terrible reality show of the same name.) I’m not kidding. On Twitter, after I used the word “hate” (I can only assume), someone with the handle, @2minuteshate, started following me. Unsettling. (Digitally, at least.)
… I spent last night doing laundry and removing/adding/tweaking songs on my Pod. I’m still looking for some albums I caught aural glimpses of on radio and such. In particular (and those that have seen my Book status know this), I’d like to find some Roma Di Luna. They have a few albums/EPs (especially looking for “Casting the Bones“) and if you have any, please let me know.
… Today is office clean-up day. Though the concept irritates me and I’m not exactly sure the point, I’m all for it. I’ve accumulated an embarrassingly large amount of paper and assorted office items. (BTW: Thanks, computers, for promising a paperless office and making it easier for morons to hand me redundant piles of annoying instead.)
I’ll be having pizza for lunch and spending my afternoon tossing un-looked-at papers of varying importance into a giant blue bin. I love my job. (And no, I can’t say that, or type that, with more sarcasm. I tried and my left ring finger started to twitch uncontrollably.)

Only one today because (you’ll probably agree) it’s long in itself. That and I’m cold camping Saturday night and need to reserve energy so I don’t pull a Doogie Howser from “Snowbound.” (Tough reference but seriously, just knowing the low is twenty-four sent my balls AWOL.)
… Yesterday, after a tweet from @garrickvanburen I “typealyzed” my posts and tweets. Chasm is a “socializer,” which means (typos aside):
The social and opiniated [sic] type. They are especially attuned to the feelings of themselves and others. They tend to be very aware of the values of their peer-group and tend to see things as either right or wrong, good or bad. They tend to be traditional and value their friends and family the most.
The Socializers are down-to-earth, practical people and very keen on making sure everyone is alright. This quality makes them enjoy social work places. Since they enjoy beeing [sic] and keeping things neat and tidy, they often also enjoy working in such environments.
My tweets come up as a “mechanic:”
The independent and problem-solving type. They are especially attuned to the demands of the moment are masters of responding to challenges that arise spontaneously. They generelly [sic] prefer to think things out for themselves and often avoid inter-personal conflicts.
The Mechanics enjoy working together with other independent and highly skilled people and often like seek fun and action both in their work and personal life. They enjoy adventure and risk such as in driving race cars or working as policemen and firefighters.
I don’t know the algorithm that goes into something like this but I can agree with a few things: “social,” “attuned to the feelings of themselves,” “see things as… wrong,” “independent,” “masters,” and “working as… firefighters.”
Also, to prove (read: without proof) I don’t think much while writing (really should be obvious by now), here’s a graph (or something) of the parts of my brain that are active while typing to Chasm:

… Headed to Chicago for the weekend (technically I’m on a bus already), visiting a buddy from way back in college. Another buddy is meeting up too. Should be wicked entertaining.
… Word is (as of when I’m writing this on Thursday) that the auto industry’s desperate plea for cash is being denied. One can only hope this catches on and more idiot industries don’t ask for handouts. (Not that the first set of handouts didn’t work out just swimmingly.) Accountability is impressively lacking among those that should be held accountable.
… This weekend out of town is just one of many in the next few months. I’ve writ ad nauseum of the two major trips but I’m away from home eight of the next ten weekends. Ridiculous.
… And finally:
Why aren’t we realizing we need to scale things back? Why don’t we see the Iraq and Afghanistan fuckups as signs we should reign in the imperial empire? Why don’t we see major sectors of our economy (Credit, Housing, Autos) failing as a sign we need to rethink how our business structure is built? (Obvious answer: those making money off the current system are making a lot of money.)
Ah well. I’m reducing my spending and hoping maybe to get some money directly into the market by Jan01 so I can benefit from the baby boomers’ short-sightedness. Not everyone went broke during the Depression.
