Thought Chasm

two thousand twelve, a year in review

Prospectus for twenty twelve? In a word: terrifying. However, who can really sum things up in a word?

Sure, there’s the anxiety associated with owning a residence, or horrific and joyous events, or, obviously, the realization of a prophecy from a long-dead culture woefully ignorant of religious and macroeconomic tendencies. (Whoever forgot to mention “The White Man” should be downsized, amiright?)

Any of those would send a goth up into a tree for days.

Still, twenty eleven was pretty great and that gives me a bit of optimism (or whatever you’d call my not-dismal outlook) for the coming orbit.

It was a full year in a new city and that’s still sort of awesome. I found steady and enjoyable employment, which is great. There was a week in the eastern Italian countryside, which was outstanding. One weekend, I spent some time riding a bike in a twenty-four hour bike race. (We didn’t win. I had a hell of a good time.)

Also notable, I spent less than three grand on getting my ass around. (Biking became sort of a thing.) That doesn’t include travel, but that’s about what most (maybe even most of you) spend on gas. With that I bought a bike and a boatload of gear. That’s sort of cool.

Oh, and we had friends visit. This is purely because of the move in twenty ten, obviously, but it’s still pretty sweet. We hosted people in town for myriad reasons four or eight times. That’s roughly four or eight times more than when we cruised like Norwegians.

Anyway, the eleventh year of the second millennium since That Guy got a bit too revolty looks pretty awesome.

Friends, keep visiting. Housing market, remain low (at least until 2013). Dear, handsome and kind readers, stay classy.

PS: Did you notice I was posting less frequently? I didn’t notice that.
