jarhead »

so i’ve read and seen jarhead. it’s a decent book and a lame film. the book doesnt justify a movie and the movie is only mediocre. the book was a fun read. descriptive and poignant. but in the good way. not in the way watching the terminal was poignant. the movie was neither. why is it so hard to find a quality movie? it wasnt jake’s fault (brokeback mountain) and it wasnt jaime’s fault (ray).

it was because some moron read a pretty decent book and thought it’d make an awesome flick. sort of like how some guy with a confederate flag off his trailer thought the same while watching reruns of “dukes of hazzard” on TVLand. and yes john o’brien, i mean you. you got lucky with starsky and hutch, but if you’re the one behind magnum PI i’m going to find a way to punch you in the face.

so i’m moving. or i guess the lease started yesterday. that would be if i were on a lease. here’s the situation in a nutshell:

drew got a call from patrick when 2 guys pulled out of their set up to see if we still needed a place. we did. so we get things in the works to get in on it. don’t know the other two guys, but they seem pretty golden. i didnt see the place until yesterday because of schedule conflicts and no communication. i signed the pre-lease agreement on the top of a busted up pop-up camper. we’ve had 3 or 4 reschedulings and all 5 of us have only been in one place once: legends for about an hour. i still have no key. i have no lease…

sounds like a clusterfuck in full swing, but at least i will be moving on sunday at the cost of gas and a case of beer for anthony and the way things are looking i’ll have a room that’s semi-secluded to help the fact i have a low tolerance for people in general. it’s also in a different neighborhood so i can get out of this shithole and stop hitting on sally’s bartenders.

there will be a house warming saturday night with my room still completely empty so since i have no idea if more than 5 people read this thing just let me know if you’re interested. for the record the coolest people have already been informed so it may be that if this is your first warning of it you’re not as cool as you think you are.

i didnt follow closely, but from what i’ve gathered we have another polarized democracy just south of our borders. while neocons fight to keep immigration in the news (at least until after mid-term elections) our amigos are having their own issues.

i can see why there would be a problem here. it’s been reported AMLO wants to turn the presidential palace into a museum and has plans for major overhauls of public policy in the favor of the poor. this could mean the beginning of an economic turnaround that could strengthen Mexico.

it’s also easy to see why our administration is suspected of helping in some of the reports of fraud. in recent decades we have let big business flourish (exxonmobile’s profits last quarter were roughly $1300… a second) and kept our own minimum wage well below a living wage. how could we let a leader with such strong convictions in favor of the poor come to power so close to our borders? it’s pretty much a threat to national security.

Calderón should have just followed the lead of the bush campaigns because when they bought their elections they at least avoided any ugly protests. and shit, Calderón can probably even speak english better than bush.

but i guess i can’t imagine more than a few hundred americans at a time leaving their AC to walk in protest in the streets anyway. vote tampering? corrupt democratic process? who gives a fuck it’s hot out and i’ve only had 2100 calories today. i’m basically starving to death here. did José finish sweeping the pool deck ’cause i need a swim.

there goes the neighborhood »

so i wanted to respond a bit to my anti-israeli-esque posts. i don’t side with hezbollah because i find their tactics completely inhumane. they put civilians at risk for their own benefit. that doesnt change how skewed the body count is.

israel is being bullied by the large middle eastern powers, or at least has a complex where they believe they are. this comes from forming a country with the support of allies who arent geographically close to the land they claim and the outright hatred of the regional powers toward that formation.

but on the other hand israel is doing their part to make the region a shithole.

they may not be wanted in the neighborhood, but they’re not acting like they want to be there long. the only thing they’re doing is making heroes of the terrorists and inflating the egos of iran and syria. although i guess when emerka is one of your strongest allies you might as well adopt some of their policies.

article first.

but i wonder why the tone of the article is surprise. would have seen these sort of tactics coming years ago if the same situation had arose. the administration still throws 9/11 references (making sure we don’t forget the one time bush’s approval ratings were over half) and they of course scold Iran before Israel because for a country headed toward economic breakdown Iran has their political fingers in every pot*. or at least the pots filled with shit we won’t eat.

“The Bush administration is allowing itself to be suckered into believing it can achieve political goals through military means. They seem to have learned nothing from Iraq.”

um. duh.

*or maybe it’s cause the weapons Israel is using to indiscriminately kill off Lebanese were supplied by us and financed by US big-military.
